Scholarship Announcements: Education Connection Video Competition, Scholarship Lottery, HSF/General Motors Scholarship Program

TGIF, Scholarship Seekers. Remember last week I challenged you to apply to at least one scholarship a day for the rest of the summer? Did any of you take me up on that challenge? How’s it going so far?
If you are still need to find one or two more scholarships to apply for, I’ve got three great possibilities with upcoming deadlines for you. There is a $3,000 video competition, a $10,000 scholarship lottery (no essays, no letters of recommendation), and a $2,500 scholarship for outstanding Hispanic students studying business or engineering.

1. Education Connection Online Video Competition Scholarship: $3,000 +
Education Connection is sponsoring a $3,000 scholarship competition for the most creative video based on one of their commercials. The Grand Prize winner will earn a $2000 scholarship plus $1000 cash; first place is a $1000 scholarship and $500 cash and second place is an Amazon Kindle (worth $360). To enter, watch one of the Ed Connection commercials, then create your own 60-second or less version, which you upload to the site. Then tell your friends to vote for your video — the entrant with the most votes, wins! The submission deadline is July 31st.
2. Student Loan Network Scholarship Drawing: $10,000
If you are tired of writing essays and filling out application, then this lottery scholarship might just be a nice break for you. I suppose the odds aren’t especially good, but for a few minutes of your time, you don’t have much to lose! The Student Loan Network asks that people sign up at their free ScholarshipPoints.com site for a chance to win $10,000. You must be enrolled or plan to enroll within the next year in an accredited college or university within the United States. The application deadline is July 31, 2009.3. HSF/General Motors Scholarship Program: $2,500
The Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), together with General Motors (GM), is sponsoring a $2,500 scholarship for outstanding Latino students pursuing degrees in Engineering and Business. Applicants may be current undergraduate students or graduating high school seniors planning to enroll in an accredited college or university by the fall of 2009. Applicants must also be of Hispanic heritage, be a legal U.S. citizen or resident, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and be majoring in engineering, business or human resources. To be considered, you must have completed and submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA. The application deadline is July 15, 2009.Good luck with your scholarship applications this week!
