Happy Friday, dear scholarship seekers! With most of you back to school, you may be thinking the search for scholarships is over.
Well, think again. Many scholarship committees are just gearing up for the 2010 – 2011 season, and that means it is prime time to get working on some new applications.
If you have been here before, you know that I try to make your search for relevant scholarships a little bit easier by telling you about great scholarship opportunities with upcoming deadlines. This week I want to share with you three awesome scholarships: the $500 Alvin J. Cox Scholarship, a $2,500 Red Vines scholarship and a $2,000 No-Essay contest.
1. The Alvin J. Cox Memorial Fund: $500
Established in 2006 in honor of public school teacher Alvin J. Cox, this scholarship fund annually provides $500 scholarships to college students from around the globe. Eligible applicants must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited college or university for the fall of 2010. High school students are also eligible to apply if they are enrolled in dual credit courses that require out of pocket expenses. This scholarship is particularly inclusive, accepting applicants from any race, nationality or financial status. Applicants must submit an essay no longer than two pages (single spaced) about their reason for attending college, including the people influencing your decision. The application deadline is September 1, 2010 and decisions will be made within two weeks. Checks will then be sent out right away, so this is a great scholarship to apply for if you are still a bit short on your fall tuition!
2. “No Essay” College Scholarship: $2,000
If you are sick and tired of writing college scholarship essays, here’s a great no-essay scholarships that takes just a few minutes to submit. Truthfully, it’s more of a sweepstakes than a scholarships, but as they say, “You gotta be in it to win it!” Money can be put toward any college-related expense — from tuition to a new computer. The application deadline is August 31, 2010 and winners will be notified by September 15 — making this another great scholarship to apply for especially if you’re still short on your fall tuition bill.
3. Red Vines Drawing Contest: $2,500
This is a fun little competition for budding artists. Create an original drawing incorporating red vines and you can win a $2,500 scholarship for college. The application deadline is September 30, 2010. Applicants must be legal residents of the United States and be at least six years of age. Entries will be judged by three age categories: Kids (6-12); teens (13-18); and adults (19+).
