Scholarship Name: Discover Scholarship Program
Description: Since its founding in 1991, the Discover Scholarship Program has awarded some $16 million in scholarships to over 6,000 students. Each year, ten high juniors will win a $30,000 scholarship to pay for any kind of post-graduation college or even online career training. Eligible candidates must be high school juniors with at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA, demonstrated accomplishments in community service and leadership, and experience having faced a significant roadblock or challenge. Applications are due no later than January 31, 2009.

Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education
Scholarship Name: Life Lessons Scholarship Program
Description: Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education annually sponsors a creative scholarship competition for students who have lost a parent or guardian. There are two ways to enter – with a written essay of no more than 500 words, or with a video essay of no longer than 3 minutes. Students must describe how the loss of their parent/guardian has affected them emotionally and financially. Scholarship prizes range from $1,000 to $5,000, with a total of $65,000 in scholarship funds awarded annually.
