Scholarship Name: Time Warner Cable Scholarship Program
Description: While only those in the New York/New Jersey area will be familiar with Time Warner Cable, virtually anyone who reads or watches news, TV or any other type of entertainment should be familiar with Time Warner, which owns Warner Bros, HBO, Time, Turner Broadcasting and many more. Time Warner Cable is a cable television provider in New York City and parts of New Jersey. If you or your parents are already a Time Warner Cable customer, you are eligible to apply for up to $3,000 to apply towards your college tuition. Students must demonstrate financial need and have at least a 3.2 GPA to be eligible for the scholarship. Students will be evaluated on the basis of their academic performance, as well as their commitment to service and the community.

Merck

Scholarship Name: United Negro College Fund/Merck Science Initiative
Description: Merck, the pharmaceutical and medical research giant, has teamed up with UNCF to offer sizable scholarships to African-American students studying science at the undergraduate level. These scholarships (worth up to $35,000 in free college money!) are reserved for African-American students who are studying life science, and plan on pursuing careers in the area. In addition the scholarships, Merck offers summer internships to recipients – students must be able to complete two internships with Merck for two consecutive summers. Students should apply in the junior year, and have at least a 3.3 GPA. UNCF and Merck also offer scholarships to graduate and doctoral students in the sciences, worth $52,000 and $85,000 respectively. These research-based scholarships are also specifically for African-American science students.
