Abrahamson & Uiterwyk Scholarship Essay Contest (Deadline: July 31, 2017)

Who Can Apply:

  • 17 years old or older.
  • A current high school senior registered at a U.S. college or university OR a current first year student enrolled at a college or university.

Submission: You must answer the following question for your essay on Family Safety. Your essay should:

  • Explain the importance of creating a Family Safety Contract. (For example, why should there be an agreement with children and their parents on safety issues? What topics should be covered?)
  • Tell us about a specific instance you or someone in your family would have benefitted from discussing safety and making a plan. (Did you rear end someone as a result of distracted driving? Were you ashamed or scared to tell your parents? Were you aware of proper steps to take after being in an accident?)
  • Create a “mock” Family Safety Contract that you believe would help families discuss common safety issues and set guidelines for acceptable and unacceptable behaviors. (For example, having a list that starts with “I will …” or “I will not …” followed by actions that either promote or compromise safety)
