The Bourdon Defence Scholarship Essay Contest (Deadline: August 31, 2018)

Who Can Apply: Any current high school senior, undergraduate, or law student who will be attending an accredited college, university or law school in 2018-2019 in the United States/Canada is eligible.

Submission: Drinking and driving is a serious offence in Canada. However, Alberta is considering “decriminalizing” drinking and driving by no longer charging first time offenders with the Criminal Code charge under s. 253(1)(a) or s. 253(1)(b), and instead will punish first time offenders under provincial legislation. There are advantages and disadvantages to decriminalizing drinking and driving. Please write the pros and cons to each argument as well as which stance you think serves the public better.
