Who Can Apply: The purpose of this contribution is to establish a scholarship program for students from Alachua or Bradford counties who pursue Associate in Arts, Associate in Science degrees or certificate programs.
Mr. Charles L. Blount was a successful businessman whose interest included cattle and turkey ranching in southwestern Missouri, real estate development in the Alachua County area, and was an automotive dealer in Florida and Georgia. Mr. Blount was a past Board member of the Santa Fe College Endowment Corporation who gave most generously of his time and monies.
Under the leadership of Charles L. Blount, one of the most ambitious charitable projects ever in Alachua County resulted in the development and renovation of a blighted, old railroad depot into the first class Santa Fe College Downtown Center. His hundreds of hours of volunteer work in the planning phase, overseeing the construction and personal fund-raising sessions, brought the $1,390,000 educational facility known as the Santa Fe College Charles L. Blount Downtown Center Campus into being. Several thousand students have directly benefited as a result of his leadership and generosity and thousands more will benefit each year in perpetuity.
Mr. Blount said many times that Gainesville and Alachua County have been good to him and that he wanted to give back to the community. When Mr. Blount decided to give back to the community, he stepped forward in a most magnificent and monumental manner. Through his generosity, he again provided students with scholarships and opportunities to attend Santa Fe College.
