Clements Law Scholarship (Deadline: October 28, 2016)

Who Can Apply: Individuals who are planning on attending college or graduate school at an accredited United States college or university during the fall of 2016 or winter of 2017 are eligible to participate in the college scholarship essay contest. Individuals under 18 should obtain the consent of their parent or legal guardian to participate.

Submission: In order to participate in the contest, applicants must submit a 500-word essay responding to the following question:

In the state of Texas, there is a statewide crisis involving auto crashes with 476,875 crashes occurring in 2014 resulting in 237,941 injuries and 3,534 fatalities.  The DUI crash total for that year was 17,221 with another 19,435 crashes occurring in work zones.

What steps can be taken to encourage safer driving habits and assure that all Texas drivers are following the rules of the road?  What wording would you recommend for a Texas bumper sticker that summarizes this traffic safety dilemma and supports the steps that you recommend?  Explain your thought process and describe how you arrived at your ideas for the safety tips and the bumper sticker.
