Who Can Apply: David Breaux was a beloved member of the Davis, California community, known for his conversations with others about the meaning of compassion. David’s life was cut short on April 27, 2023. The founding donors, retired professors of philosophy, are committed to advancing social justice in tangible ways, including educational equity. This scholarship was established to honor David’s brilliance, curiosity, and commitment to purposeful, compassionate living.
- Be a high school senior or an undergraduate college student in their first year of study planning to attend a 2-year or 4-year college/university
- Must have attended or currently attending a school in Yolo County
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrate financial need through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application

- Essay: Please provide an essay regarding your view on social justice and compassion and how it has or may play a role in your life.
- First Letter of Reference: provide a reference letter from a teacher, counselor, service provider or employer who has had a meaningful connection to you and can address your resilience and potential and ongoing support to achieve your academic and life goals.
- Second Letter of Reference: provide a reference letter from a teacher, counselor, service provider or employer who has had a meaningful connection to you and can address your resilience and potential and ongoing support to achieve your academic and life goals.
