Diana T.Y. Chung Memorial Scholarship for International Students (Deadline: September 30, 2016)

Who Can Apply: The Diana T.Y. Chung Memorial Scholarship is awarded each fall to one incoming (new) and one current international student at SF State. The amount of each award will vary from year-to-year, but will be no less than $1,000.00 per student. The scholarship is not renewable and is awarded in November/December contingent upon admission and verification of full-time enrollment at SF State. The award will be in the form of check made payable to the student and can be used by the student according to his/her needs. Scholarship recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic ability, financial need and willingness to promote international goodwill at SF State. Recipients must be enrolled in a full course of study at SF State (12 units for undergraduates; 8 units for graduates) for the Fall 2016 Semester.

Submission:

  • Please submit two recommendation letters on official letterhead stationary, signed and in English from teachers or counselors who can comment on your ability to succeed academically and socially at SF State. Please upload recommendation letter #1.
  • Please submit two recommendation letters on official letterhead stationary, signed and in English from teachers or counselors who can comment on your ability to succeed academically and socially at SF State. Please upload recommendation letter #2.
  • Please submit unofficial copies of all transcripts/mark sheets of university-level coursework completed (including coursework completed at SF State) showing courses taken, grades received, diplomas earned. Please scan all of your academic transcripts into your computer and upload them in a single document.
  • Do you have any outstanding academic and/or athletic achievements? (i.e. awards, honors, scholarships, competitions, special recognitions, etc. received within the past 5 years) Please be specific.
  • Please describe your future educational and career goals. (500 word limit). Please be specific in your answers and include responses to the following questions: How did you decide on your major field of study? Why is this field important to you? What will you do with your SF State degree after you graduate? How will your studies at SF State help with your future career plans? Please upload your essay.
  • Please describe your financial need. (250 word limit). Please be specific in your answers and include responses to the following questions: Why do you need financial assistance? If you are awarded a scholarship, how will you use the money? Are you currently receiving any other types of financial assistance (scholarships, loans, grants, etc.)? If yes, please describe the type and amount. Please upload your essay.
  • Please describe what International Goodwill means to you. (500 word limit). Please be specific in your answers and include responses to the following questions: Why is international goodwill important to you? How have you been involved in promoting international goodwill in the past? How will you promote international goodwill at SF State? Please upload your essay.
