DISH TV Scholarship (Deadline: November 30, 2016)

Who Can Apply: Both current students and incoming freshmen are eligible.

How to Apply: Watching live sporting events has been the most popular reason for watching TV for decades. With the advent of easy-to-use DVR technology in the 1990’s, and then its widespread adoption over the last fifteen years, sports remain one of the few types of programming that are consistently watched live versus recorded.

  1. Write an essay (between 600 and 1000 words) using psychological and sociological principles, to attempt to understand and explain the above issue: What makes watching a sporting event live more valuable than watching it pre-recorded, and why is this different from most other programming?
  2. Your essay should include two professional sources (not Wikipedia)
  3. Please use perma.cc if you choose to use online sources and use MLA citation style for your work.
  4. Citations are not included in the word count limit.
