Who Can Apply: Graduating seniors with a grade point average of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) or higher whose parent/guardian is a member of one of the 17 unions affiliated with the Duluth Building Trades Council are welcome to apply. These unions are: Boilermakers Lodge 647, Bricklayers Local 1, Carpenters Local 361, Cement Masons Local 633, Elevator Constructors Local 9, Electrical Workers Local 242, Insulators Local 49, Iron Workers Local 512, Laborers Local 1091, Millwrights Local 1348, Operating Engineers Local 49, Painters Local 106, Plumbers/Steam fitters Local 11, Roofers Local 96, Sheet Metal Workers Local 10, Sprinkler Fitters Local 669, and Teamsters Local 346.
Preference will be given to students entering the health care field, but applicants in other fields are encouraged to apply as well. Students should complete and submit the DSACF Common Application by the January 15 deadline day. A complete application will also include an academic transcript (including standardized test scores), two recommendations and an essay describing what union membership has meant to the student’s family.
