Who Can Apply: The James A. Fortmann Scholarship is in honor of James Fortmann’s dedication to a career in art and art education. Mr. Fortmann was an artist and teacher who enjoyed sharing his talents to train and educate aspiring artists. Mr. Fortmann, and his wife, Javus Fortmann, a former public school administrator, retired to Sedona, Arizona, and because of their connection to the region wish to award high school seniors graduating from high schools in the Verde Valley or Northern Arizona and attending a two- or four-year art school, college or university.
- U.S. citizen.
- Minimum 2.5 GPA.
- Graduating high school seniors from an Arizona high school. Preference for students graduating from the Verde Valley (Sedona, Cottonwood, Clarkdale, Camp Verde) or Northern Arizona (Flagstaff and surrounding area).
- Full-time student majoring in Commercial Art, Fine Art, Art Education or Art History and attending an accredited Arizona community college or university, OR an Arizona-graduating high school senior accepted to and attending an out-of-state art school. (Examples of careers: advertising and commercial design, commercial photography, fashion design, general visual communications design, graphic design, industrial design, interior design; art gallery manager, exhibition designer, fine artist, graphic designer, arts administrator; art teacher; nonprofit administrator, museum/gallery curator, art consultant).
- High financial need as indicated in the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
