“Lifting the Spirit” Challenge Flight Scholarship (Deadline: November 12, 2018)

Who Can Apply: This scholarship will be awarded to a WAI member who has undergone hardship (which may be physical, emotional, or financial) and offers them a unique way to challenge themselves and thus gain self-confidence and increased resiliency skills.

The scholarship covers flight training up to the amount of $1500, taking the student to the level of competency where they are able to control the aircraft on their own, whilst having an instructor beside them in the aircraft. The selection will be based on information submitted in the scholarship application.


  • two (one-page) recommendation letters
  • typed, descriptive 500-word essay
  • professional résumé
  • copies of all aviation and medical certificates and the last three pages of your pilot logbook (if applying for flight scholarships). Other applicable information as requested for each specific award/grant/scholarship.
