Who Can Apply:

  • an Armed Forces Veteran planning to enroll in college classes in your next semester
  • a U.S. citizen

Submission: You must write a 500-750 word essay as part of your application. You can choose from the following subjects:

  • Your appreciation for another veteran  or Armed Forces member
  • The skills you learned in the military that can transfer to your college career
  • Your biggest challenge in the military and how you overcame it
  • A moment where you experienced failure and the lessons you learned from it
  • Your opinion on the greatest commander of all time

You can write your essay in any style. You can choose to be informative, humorous, inspirational or educational. Keep in mind that winners will be chosen primarily on creativity and content. However, make sure you use correct grammar and punctuation. Citing sources is acceptable, but your quote should not exceed two sentences. Your ideas and experiences should be the focal point of your essay.
