The Elizabeth Abrams Memorial Scholarship (Deadline: April 15, 2015)

Who Can Apply: This scholarship is given to honor the spirit, strength and contribution of Elizabeth “Lizzie” Abrams. It is a one-year, $3,000 scholarship for graduating seniors of Plano East, Plano West, Plano Sr. High School or John Paul II High School that were members of the school swim team their senior year. A minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4-point scale, a minimum SAT score of 1400 and a minimum ACT score of 20 are required, along with 1-2 recommendations from teachers or counselors. Selection criteria include scholastic achievement, athletic and community participation, leadership skills and essay response. Financial need is not a strong selection factor for this scholarship.


  1. Please upload an essay that in 500 – 1,000 words includes answers to each of the following questions: 1) What do you feel you have done to make the world a better place, and how do you intend to use your college education to continue improving the world? 2) After reading Lizzie’s bio, what traits of hers do you feel you might want to emulate, and as a recipient of this scholarship what would you be willing to do to help carry her legacy forward?
  2. Are you currently a graduating senior from one of the following schools: Plano East High School, Plano West High School, Plano Senior High School or John Paul II High School?
  3. Have you been a member of your school swim team in your senior year of high school?
