Who Can Apply: In partnership with UNCF, Dr. Nancy Slater and Dr. Alan Millner developed the Slater-Millner Scholars Fund to provide need-based scholarships to rising college sophomores who are on an academic track to study Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine, with a demonstrated interest in becoming a doctor.
- Have a minimum GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident, or DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) eligible.
- Be African American/Black, Native American/Alaskan Native, or Native Hawaiian.
- Be a current college freshmen who will be enrolled full-time as a sophomore in the 2024-2025 academic year at any US-located accredited 4-year institution.
- Be in a program on a curricular track for an M.D. degree in Allopathic Medicine or a D.O. degree in Osteopathic Medicine.
- Have completed the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the 2024-2025 academic year and have a demonstrated unmet financial aid need, as reported to UNCF by the applicant’s college or university.
- Applicants with DACA status are exempt from the FAFSA requirement.
Submission:
- A current official or unofficial academic transcript showing a Pre-Medical declared major or curricular track leading to the study of Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine.
- A 1-page essay responding to the following essay prompt:
- In 500-600 words, share your future goals to provide healthcare to underserved communities — inclusive of your medical specialty interest — and discuss specific experiences that have influenced your plans.
- Applicants with DACA status must upload documentation showing confirmation of DACA status to be considered.
