Who Can Apply:
- Nursing is a demanding profession that requires skill, resilience, and, above all, compassion. At its heart, nursing means caring for people at their most vulnerable—protecting their dignity, respecting their autonomy, and ensuring that no patient feels alone in their suffering.
- This scholarship honors the memory of public health nurse Evelyn Stacey Blackwood, who dedicated her life to bringing compassionate care to those who needed it most. From the streets of Newark, New Jersey, to soldiers serving during World War II, Evelyn cared for vulnerable populations and worked tirelessly to improve public health and access to care for those without a safety net.
- In her spirit, this scholarship seeks to support nursing students who believe that unconditionally compassionate care is fundamental to excellent nursing. This scholarship is meant to support students who are inspired and are driven by their calling to be of service.
- Any student actively enrolled in the School of Nursing of a four-year Bachelor’s Program at a university in the states of Washington or Idaho may apply for this scholarship. Applicants should demonstrate a passion for caring for the vulnerable and a belief that nursing is a team sport.
