Who Can Apply:
- Amos Hargrave began his career as a luthier in 1974 at the Violin Making School of America in Salt Lake City, Utah.
- Although he was never boastful, his craftsmanship was awarded four gold medals from the Violin Society of America between 1980 and 1982, and he was recognized with Hors Concours status in 1984. Amos’s skills and attention to detail were exceptional; he was highly sought after as a master restorer. He never rushed, and nothing left his bench until he was satisfied. He was a teacher and mentor to many aspiring violin makers and restorers.
- This scholarship seeks to honor the memory and skill of Amos Hargrave by supporting students who share his passion for the craft of violin making.
- Any high school senior who will pursue trade school or any current trade school student who is planning to become a violin maker may apply for this scholarship opportunity. However, those attending or planning to attend the Violin School of America in Salt Lake City, Utah, and low-income students are preferred.
