Who Can Apply: To provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students attending Mansfield University. It is the intent of the Knoll family that this scholarship be awarded on an annual basis. As such, if in any given year there is not an eligible applicant that meet the primary selection criteria, an award may be made according to the secondary criteria listed.
- Applicant must be a resident of Chemung county or the surrounding counties of NY and PA, specifically Steuben, Schuyler, Tompkins, Tioga (NY and PA) and Bradford
- Eligible recipients can be an incoming freshman, returning student or transfer student majoring in Social Work major. Priority preference will be given to those students with a demonstrated commitment to working to better the lives of children with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Applicants who are veterans and active duty personnel or are dependents of veterans will be given preference (current copy of student’s or parent’s DD214 or NOBE must be submitted)
- Incoming student applicants with a 90 or higher high school average and a minimum 1000 or higher SAT composite and returning students with a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be considered. All candidates must have a demonstratd financial need
- Award considerations will be determined by such things as documented community service, demonstrated leadership abilities as evidenced by volunteer work, actively involved in student leadership initiative in their high school or leadership roles on or off campus.
Secondary Criteria
- If no student from Chemung and surrounding counties meets the prior listed criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to a qualified student from any geographic area meeting the remaining preferred criteria
- If there is no eligible student who meets the preferred academic standing criteria, but who meets all other preferred criteria then the award may be given if the applicant is an incoming student with a 85% or higher high school average and a minimum 950 SAT composite or a returning or a transfer student with a minimum GPA of 3.0. All candidates must have a demonstrated financial need
- If in any given year there is no social work major meeting the primary or secondary selection criteria, the scholarship may be awarded to an early childhood education or sociology major who meets the academic criteria, has a demonstrated financial need, and documented community service or demonstrated leadership abilities. Preference will always be granted for applicants who are veterans or active duty members of the military or the dependent of a veteran.
