Pennsylvania National Guard Members

Other Comments: Together with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), we administer the Educational Assistance Program (EAP) for members of the Pennsylvania National Guard. This program provides tuition assistance for students who enter into a service commitment with the Pennsylvania National Guard, typically for a period of six years.

PHEAA Alternative Loan

Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

Amount: $1,500;

Award Is Open To: HS Seniors, All Undergrads
Majors/Fields of Study: All Majors
GPA: 3.5
Class Rank Percentile: Top 5%
Residency: Pennsylvania
Other Comments: Scholarships are available to Pennsylvania resident high school graduates who are accepted in an accredited college or university. Applicants must have a 3.5 GPA, a 1200 SAT score, a 27 ACT score, or be in the upper 5 percent of their class. Applicants must fulfill at least two of the above requirements. State Grants for Veterans

Person serving: Student.
Military Branch: Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard.
Other Comments: Applicant must be at least a half-time student and have been at least a cadet or midshipman. Up to $2700 can be granted for attendance at a state colleges, and up to $800 for out-of-state colleges.

PHEAA Academic Excellence Scholarship Award Program

Amount: $1,500;
Awards per Year: Varies;
The Award Is: Based on Academic Merit
Deadline: May 1.
Who Is Eligible?
Award Is Open To: HS Seniors
Majors/Fields of Study: All Majors
Residency: Pennsylvania
Other Comments: The PHEAA Academic Excellence Scholarship Award Program provides scholarships in the amount of $1,500 to those students who applied and qualified for the federal Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program but did not receive the scholarship. high school seniors who wish to be considered for the PHEAA Academic Excellence Scholarship Award Program must submit a Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Application no later than May 1 for the upcoming academic year. Students may also obtain a Byrd Program application from their high school guidance counselor/school authority.

Postsecondary Education Gratuity Program

Who Is Eligible?
Award Is Open To: HS Seniors
Majors/Fields of Study: All Majors
Residency: Pennsylvania
Other Comments: This program honors individuals who lost their lives protecting the citizens of this Commonwealth by providing their children with a waiver of tuition, fees, and room and board charges. An act was signed into law that provides financial assistance to children of Pennsylvania police officers, firefighters, rescue or ambulance squad members, corrections facility employees or National Guard members who died in the line of duty after January 1, 1976. On November 30, 2004, the Governor signed into law an amendment to this Act, to also include sheriffs, deputy sheriffs, National Guard members and certain other individuals who are on federal or state active military duty, are Pennsylvania residents, and who died in the line of duty since September 11, 2001.
