Who Can Apply: The Gread “Lefty” McKinnis Memorial Foundation (GLMMF) was established in 2005. GLMMF is dedicated in memory of former Negro League pitcher, Gread “Lefty” McKinnis. GLMMF is a non-profit 501©3 corporation established to promote and extend the spirit of love, by aiding, building and uplifting the underprivileged through the gift of giving.
GLMMF provides financial assistance to high school seniors who are admitted to an accredited two or four-year college or university. Specifically, the fund provides male African American high school seniors with assistance in pursuing higher education. Each year, the Foundation awards at least one college scholarship to a graduating senior at a school of need.

- African American Male
- US Citizenship – Chicagoland area
- Admitted to and attending a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2 or 4-year college or university in the fall
- Attendance at Scholarship Presentation Event (June 2023)
Submission:

- Official Student Transcript
- College Acceptance Letter
- Community or Civic Involvement (community service)
- Personal Statements – 100 words minimum for each questions
- Two (2) letters of recommendation; 1st from teacher or high school counselor, and 2nd from community/civic or church leader
Letters of Recommendation must be signed and include:
(a) Relationship to Applicant
(b) Number of years’ known - Interview with Scholarship Committee (you are required to appear before the committee for an interview) (April-May 2023)
