- Hawai’i Island is the southernmost island in Hawaii and is full of talented high school students who have the acumen to be standouts in both academics and sports.
- The island relies heavily on the tourism and hospitality industry, and many families face a lack of financial resources. Many of the students on Hawai’i Island come from multigenerational family homes, and most parents work two jobs and do fundraising work to support their children’s extracurricular activities at school. When teens and young adults leave Hawai’i Island, their parents often need to draw upon several different funding programs to help cover the costs of tuition, books, and residential living expenses.
- This scholarship aims to support students from Hawai’i Island as they finish high school so they can afford to transition to higher education.
- Any high school senior on Hawai’i Island may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they are from a working-class family and if they will pursue a two or four-year degree on Hawai’i Island or on the mainland.
