Who Can Apply: The Hero’s Journey is the universal path of facing immense challenges and discovering individual greatness that lies within. The lesson to be learned is that the capacity for this journey lies within us all.
The arc of a Hero is familiar to us all because it is universal, transcendent, and innately human. High school is a time of challenge and struggle, BUT it is also an opportunity to experience the Hero’s Journey.
- Beginning with a separation from a life of the ordinary and status quo, the Hero receives a call to action. This call will pull the Hero from what they know, and is often disregarded at first. But with the help from a mentor, guide, or favorable circumstances, the Hero accepts the call. The hero embarks on their journey, eventually crossing a point of no return.
- During the Initiation stage, the Hero must face intense challenges leading up to a supreme ordeal where the darkest fears, the biggest obstacles, or greatest tests must be dealt with. The hero perseveres, endures, and ultimately overcomes this critical chapter. After claiming victory, the Hero finds themselves transformed for the better and ready to return home.
- Third and last stage, the Hero returns home to bring back what has been won, retrieved, and found. The Hero is also now different than before, something has changed for them as a result of the journey. This change allows the Hero to contribute in a new way to the world around them.
