Who Can Apply:
- Joshua’s Light was created in memory of Joshua, a Marine Corps veteran and college student who navigated significant mental health challenges while actively seeking support and advocating for his own care. His journey reflects the strength it takes to ask for help, persist through complex systems, and continue showing up even when support feels fragmented or hard to access.
- The scholarship is administered by Solace Mind® and is intended to uplift students who lead with empathy, self-advocacy, and a desire to reduce stigma around mental health and suicide. Joshua’s Light recognizes resilience, courage, and the quiet determination to keep going while working toward a more responsive and compassionate mental health landscape.
- This scholarship aims to honor Joshua’s life by reminding others that seeking help is an act of strength and that every effort to care for oneself and others matters.
- Any underrepresented student in a master’s program for mental health may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they have been impacted by suicide loss, suicidal ideation, or mental health challenges, and if they demonstrate resilience and self-advocacy.
Submission: To apply, tell us how your experience with suicide or mental health has impacted your decision to pursue a degree in mental health, how you practice self-advocacy, and how you plan to serve underrepresented communities through your future work.
