- Together, they built a legacy centered around hard work, community service, and keeping family first. As the first elected African-American commissioner in McLennan county, he served the constituents of precinct two. Lester Gibson made a tremendous difference by giving a voice to those who did not yet know how to speak for themselves. His can-do attitude and determination left a lasting impact on his community and family.
- This scholarship seeks to continue the legacy of Lester and Coque Gibson by offering financial assistance to students pursuing higher education in an effort to serve their community and build a legacy of their own.
- Any undergraduate student at a two or four-year degree program who is a resident of Texas with community service experience may apply for this scholarship.
