TFIF, all you scholarship seekers! Despite the thunderstorms we’ve been experiencing this week, summer has most definitely arrived. But you shouldn’t get too comfortable lounging out by the pool quite yet — especially if you still need to figure out how you’re going to pay for next semester’s tuition bill. You need to get on the scholarship ball, and I’m here to help you out! Each Friday at the Financial Aid Finder, I post about three hot scholarship opportunities with upcoming deadlines.
This week, I have a $5,000 video scholarship competition about road safety, a $5,000 scholarship for journalists wanting to study religion or spirituality, and $15,000 in scholarships for environmentally-minded students.
If you want to find more scholarships you might be eligible for, try using a free scholarship search engine. But first, check out our on scholarship searches so you can be sure to avoid a scam! Our scholarship section also has plenty of helpful articles on everything from the scholarship application process to writing winning scholarship essays to the truth about unclaimed scholarships.
1. Safety Scholars Video Scholarship: $5,000
Here’s a fun and different kind of scholarship opportunity, sponsored by Bridgestone Tires. Make a short video related to either safe driving or automotive environmentalism, and then enter your video on the Safety Scholars website for a chance to win a $5,000 college scholarship. The winning video will also be broadcast nationwide as a public service announcement. The top three filmmakers each win a $5,000 college scholarship, while the ten finalists earn a new set of tires. The submission deadline is stated on the website. Grab your camera and start shooting!
2. Lilly Scholarships in Religion for Journalists: $5,000
Are you an established journalist wanting to go back to school to enhance your academic knowledge of religion or spirituality? (Yes, the scholarship is a little more niche-oriented that I usually post, but with a $5,000 prize, I thought it was worth it!) The Religion Newswriters Association, in conjunction with the Religion Newsriters Foundation, is offering scholarships of up to $5,000 each to journalists interested in studying religion at any accredited college, university or seminary. Scholarships can be used cover any education-related expenses, including tuition, registration fees and books. In addition to a personal essay and references, applicants must include a proposed course of study and projected costs for one course per application period. The application deadline is stated on the website.
3. Blade Your Ride Scholarship: $15,000 in total scholarships (Search the Website for Info)
Are you a student concerned about global climate issues? Do you believe that just one person can make a big difference through small changes? The Blade Your Ride Scholarship Program will award a total of $15,000 in scholarships to the three students with the best short video webcasts about the issue of global climate change and the potential for small changes to make a significant difference. Sponsored by Sabertec, the scholarship committee welcomes applicants who explore the potential of the Sabertec product, Blade, in their video webcasts. Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time in a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree program at an accredited college or university and must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants should submit a 1-2 minute video, along with their résumé, transcript and letter of recommendation. The application deadline is stated on the website.
