Who Can Apply:
- The Yaa Asantewaa Scholarship Fund was created from a simple but powerful belief: when Black women are supported, communities thrive. Named for the fearless Ghanaian queen mother who led her people with unshakeable courage, this fund exists for the Black women scholars who carry that same fire, whose brilliance and resilience deserve room to grow, unburdened by financial barriers.
- Our mission is to advance social mobility for Black women by relieving the weight of educational debt. We invest in women studying social work, public health, STEM, and social justice—fields that build futures and transform communities. We also proudly extend dedicated consideration to scholars with lived experiences in foster care or adoption. Your journey reflects a strength that deserves to be honored and resourced.
- Any Black woman enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program at an accredited, non-profit university pursuing social work, public health, STEM, or social justice may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they have demonstrated financial need. However, applicants who have a background in foster care or adoption, those who are first-generation college students, and applicants who show leadership or community involvement are preferred.
Submission: To apply, submit an essay or video telling us about your experience as a Black woman in graduate school and what challenges you’ve experienced. If you choose the video option, submit a link to the video as a public YouTube link or a Google Drive link. Settings should be set to “public” or “anyone with the link can view.” If we can’t access your video, your application won’t be considered. If you submit a video, write “Submitted via a video link” in the essay box.
