Who Can Apply:
- The Project “Investing in the Black” Scholarship, created by UpHill Management Solutions, is designed to support the next generation of leaders, innovators, and changemakers through education, mentorship, and opportunity.
- In partnership with Bold.org and the UMS mentorship program, this initiative provides scholarships and guidance to students committed to creating real impact in underserved communities—especially in areas like economic mobility, education access, financial literacy, health equity, and wealth creation.
- Open to students studying business, finance, psychology, economics, education, public health, entrepreneurship, social impact, public policy, real estate, international studies, and related fields focused on building stronger communities and generational prosperity.
- Built on the belief that “it takes a community to lift a community”, this scholarship empowers students who are committed to using their education and ideas to create lasting change and expand opportunity for all.
- Any high school senior or undergraduate student in Michigan who has at least a 3.5 GPA and volunteering experience may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they are pursuing one of the previously listed fields of study.
Submission:
- Please tell us how you plan to make a positive impact on the community through your career and why that impact is important.
- Describe one disparity you seek to reduce within a community, such as economic opportunity, wealth creation, education access, workplace awareness, or health outcomes. Identify a specific strategy or intervention that could produce measurable improvement. Explain the evidence, research, or historical lessons that informed your perspective, and describe how the success of the initiative could be measured over time.
- Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate how their proposed solution reflects the principle of Investing in the Black: directing resources toward strategies that produce sustainable and profitable outcomes for communities.
