Who Can Apply: Denise Abernathy, originally from Michigan, moved to the Tampa Bay area where for years she worked with the banking industry. She joined the FHP as a senior clerk in January of 2007, beginning a long and lasting relationship with scores of fellow employees and Troopers throughout the Bay area. Known as a dedicated, hard-working employee with a keen eye for accuracy and efficiency, Denise was often the first to help with any need arising from absolutely anyone.
Denise was loved by a sister and two brothers, as well as her husband Michael who preceded her in death. Michael and Denise shared a common interest in gemology, often creating their own jewelry. Denise was also fond of cross-stitching, avidly completing projects for friends and family alike. Always willing to give to others, Denise wished to continue to assist others by creating a scholarship for the children of FHP Troopers following her passing. She will be fondly remembered for always being there for others.
