Who Can Apply:
- Mary Lou Losinger spent her career as a dedicated pediatric nurse practitioner in the small town of Elmira, New York. Even in retirement, she maintains a passion for nursing, and her three sons created this scholarship to honor her professional legacy.
- For decades, Mary Lou has been a nurse to everyone around her. She provided end of life care to many loved ones and continues to help her friends with their medical appointments, daily medications, and mental health. She is always nursing and has made her community a better place by applying a “good bedside manner” to everyone in her life.
- There is a shortage of well-trained, empathetic, compassionate nurses, especially in small towns. With that in mind, the Losinger Nursing Scholarship seeks to support students who are pursuing a career in nursing and who are dedicated to using their skills to help others.
- High school seniors and college students pursuing a degree in nursing are encouraged to apply for this scholarship. First-generation college students and applicants from the Southern Tier of New York are preferred, but all applicants will be considered.
Submission: Please submit a written response to the following two prompts.
1. Please discuss your personal inspiration for pursuing a career in nursing. (250-300 words)
2. What does the phrase “human touch” mean to you? Explain how “human touch” can impact patient care. (350-400 words)
