One of the nation’s largest financial holding companies, Sun Trust is giving away a $1,000 scholarship every two weeks from October 30, 2009 through May 14, 2010. Winnings will be made payable to your school of attendance. Enter weekly to increase your chances of winning!
2. Akademos / TextbookX.com 2009 Scholarship: $2,000
TextbookX.com is a discount online bookstore, founded by Akademos, which offers up to 90% off retail prices on more than 900,000 titles. This year marks the company’s third annual scholarship contest, in which one well-written student will win a $2,000 scholarship (and two runners-up will win $250 in book credits). To enter, you must write a essay of no more than 750 words on the subject,
Should there be a death penalty? Defend your position on practical, philosophical or ethical grounds.
Answers must reference at least one book that influenced the student’s answer and provide complete bibliographical information. Scholarship will be paid directly to the winner. All essays must be submitted on the TextbookX.com website by October 31, 2009.
3. PRIMERO Hispanic Heritage Scholarship: $10,000
Inspired by the many Hispanic families who have helped their children become the first to attend college, the Sears Holdings Corporation created the PRIMERO Hispanic Heritage Scholarship. The program will award up to $10,000 towards college costs for those who are first in their family, as well as those who are continuing the tradition. High school and college students from all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Applicants must submit an online application and answer the following essay question (in English or Spanish) in no more than 500 words:
Describe a person of Hispanic origin who was a “FIRST” in his or her industry or field who you admire and who has been an inspiration to you in your current/future career goals.
In addition to the grand prize of $10,000, there will be one second-place prize of $5,000, two third-place prizes of $2,500, and 10 runners-up prizes of Sears-Kmart “Back to Campus” kits (ARV $250). Applications are due no later than October 15, 2009.
Good luck with your applications this week!
