- Senora Sowry was a beloved mother who devoted her life to teaching Spanish, spending thirty-one years in the classroom.
- Senora was also involved with the Ansonia migrant program and taught abroad in Texas as well as English in Costa Rica. She recognized the importance of understanding different cultures and how those cultures have shaped the world, seeing how this exchange of knowledge and customs benefits the entire globe.
- This scholarship seeks to honor the life of Senora Sowry by supporting students who plan to pursue career paths in foreign languages.
- Any high school senior who is a resident of Darke County, Ohio, and attends a public school there may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they will major in English or another language at a four-year college or university. However, applicants who have at least a 3.5 GPA, those with two to four years of foreign language experience in high school, and applicants who demonstrate extracurricular involvement, a history of volunteering, or work experience are preferred.
