Who Can Apply:
- Troy James Carlson Sr. was a beloved father who passed away on November 10th, 2024, after years of battling cancer. Troy was a father of 8 children. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and went into remission and then in April, 2023, it came back more aggressively. Troy had a rare form of cancer called Spindle Cell Carcinoma. In 2022, they removed Troy’s larynx, making it so he could no longer talk. In June of 2024, the cancer had spread to the other side of his throat and became a huge tumor that was inoperable. Troy did 4 rounds of chemotherapy (the last round was an experimental chemo) and 2 rounds of radiation. On Troy’s very last good day, he made sure he cooked out on his grill!
- Before he got sick, Troy was a chef. He loved cooking almost as much as he loved his family and his talent and passion brought joy to many people. Many young people share Troy’s ambition and connection to cooking but students often don’t receive the encouragement they need to follow their dreams.
