Who Can Apply:
- The quality of medical care provided to patients is highly dependent on one’s financial status, location, and demographics.
- Underrepresented minorities often receive substandard care due to structural biases and stereotypes and entire communities are often underserved, with a lack of care providers that can delay people from getting the diagnoses, treatment, and advice they need. Leveling out these inequalities requires encouraging future physicians to take their skills where they’re most needed.
- This scholarship aims to honor the memory of Dr. Alan V. Lee by supporting students who will be the medical professionals of the future.
- Any underrepresented minority undergraduate or graduate student from Philadelphia pursuing a career as a physician may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they are a first-generation college or medical student with volunteering experience who is interested in working in an underserved community.
