Description:
The LPA Diversity in Design Scholarship grants a $5000 award (renewable each year), mentoring support and a summer internship to up to four high school seniors intending to pursue a career in a building design profession and entering an undergraduate degree program in one of the following (or related) fields:
- Architecture
- Landscape Architecture
- Interior Architecture/Design
- Architectural Engineering
- Structural Engineering
- Building Science
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
Preference is given to students from historically underrepresented communities, and financial need is considered. Applicants must be high school seniors in California or Texas who have been accepted in a full-time undergraduate program at an accredited four- or five-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States.
Now in its fourth year, the LPA Diversity in Design Scholarship targets the well-documented lack of diversity in the architecture and engineering industries. The program provides a pipeline into the design professions by focusing on long-term relationships with students and offering practical experience to help them progress in their education. Each scholarship recipient is matched with an LPA mentor in their chosen discipline.
LPA is an integrated design firm located in California and Texas that creates healthy and sustainable places through collaboration between architects, engineers, landscape architects and interior designers. The LPA Diversity in Design Scholarship is part of LPA for Change, the firm’s community impact initiative. Other components of the initiative include participation in the National Organization of Minority Architects’ Project Pipeline, the ACE Mentor Program of America, and the International Living Future Institute’s JUST program.
