- Mamie Marie Clay Matthews was a God-fearing woman who always lent a helping hand to her family and the youth in her church.
- She passed away after spending 84 years of life with her family. Mamie Marie Matthews is survived by 8 of her children, one proceeded her in death. Mamie supported 5 of her children on their journey to pursue a higher education and assisted her grandchildren through college with small monthly checks to help them. Those we love never truly leave us.
- This scholarship aims to honor Mamie Marie Matthews by supporting African American high school juniors and seniors in Louisiana.
- High school juniors and seniors who are African American in Louisiana with religious affiliation pursuing Education, Engineering, Horticulture or Theology may apply.
