- Walter and Linnie Francis were beloved parents and natives of Jamaica who always believed in the importance of education.
- Walter and Linnie instilled a passion for education in the children, always encouraging them to dream big and pursue their career goals. While many students today share this drive and feel called to attend college, it can be difficult to enroll in and complete a degree program. From the financial burden of standardized test prep to the costs of college applications to the significant competition in college admissions and financial aid applications, many students face hurdles on the path toward success.
- This scholarship aims to honor the lives of Walter and Linnie Francis by supporting students who are preparing to pursue higher education.
- Any Black or African-American high school senior in Hartford or West Hartford, Connecticut may apply for this scholarship opportunity if they have a 2.0-2.9 GPA and if they will start college in fall 2025. Applicants of Jamaican descent are strongly encouraged to apply.
Submission: To apply, tell us how your culture has influenced your beliefs and academic and professional goals, or how a challenge or accomplishment you’ve experienced has directly impacted the African-American community. Also, please upload a letter of recommendation.
