National Forensic League

The American Legion
Scholarship Name: American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program
Description: This isn’t a traditional debate team or forensics scholarship, but rather combines public speaking and history to create a challenging contest for bright, dedicated high school seniors. The contest consists of a prepared oration on topics related to the Constitution, specifically citizenship. The speech will be given first at the local level, then nationally. The contest is a lot of work and commitment, but the pay-off is a great one: a $18,000 scholarship for college. Eligible students must be under the age of 20.
Award: $14,000 – $18,000
Awards per Year: 3
Award is Open to: High School Seniors
Major/Field of Study: Open
How to Apply/Contact: To view all of the rules and regulations of the contest, and to see appropriate topics for your oration, please visit the American Legion website.
