Scholarship Name: California Grocers Association Foundation College Scholarship Program
Description: Each year the California Grocers Association (CGA) awards scholarships to children of employees of member organizations through their College Scholarship Program. There are 239 scholarships in all, which total more than $300,000. Each scholarship is named for an outstanding grocer from major markets throughout California. The CGA also administers scholarships on behalf of supermarkets like Albertson’s and Super A foods, that range from $1,000 to $5,000 each. To qualify for any of these awards, students must be in good academic standing and have proven leadership ability.

Union Plus
Scholarship Name: Union Plus Education Foundation Scholarship
Description: Union Plus is part of a benefits organization provided by the AFL-CIO. Dependents of any current or retired union member who participates in a Union Plus program in eligible for these scholarships, ranging from $500 to $2,000. The scholarship review committee, which is made up of post-secondary educators from various fields and disciplines, is looking for applicants with academic achievement, and a commitment to social awareness. While the scholarship is fairly competitive (they receive more than 5,000 applications every year), it is also versatile: students can use the scholarship awards for four-year colleges, community colleges and trade schools.
