Scholarship Name: JBF Scholarships
Description: The James Beard Foundation believes that food is one of the most important things in life, and they look for like-minded citizens and students who plan on using their love of food in the hospitality industry. In addition to the workshops, classes, conferences and readings, the James Beard Foundation awards college scholarships, tuition wavers and cash awards to more than 80 students pursuing culinary-related degrees each year. Awards are available to students of any grade who are interested in culinary education, as was James Beard for whom the scholarship (and foundation) is named. In addition to the college scholarships, the James Beard Foundation gives awards to current chefs and pastry chefs for culinary excellence, which may be used to pay for continuing or advance education programs.

Charlie Trotter Culinary Education Foundation
Scholarship Name: Charlie Trotter Culinary Education Foundation (Note 9/4/12 – Award No Longer Available)
Description: Charlie Trotter’s restaurants are Chicago-area staples, and each year the Culinary Education foundation gets together with local chefs and Chef Trotter himself to have a special meal that raises money for local students who want to follow their dreams of becoming chefs on their own. This small but impactful scholarship program chooses a small number of local students to receive awards of $1,000 each who are interested in pursuing advanced education and careers in the culinary profession. Students who can demonstrate their interest in cooking and food are encouraged to apply. Charlie Trotter Culinary Education Foundation also supports a number of extracurricular activities and programs for Chicago youth throughout the year.
