Scholarship Name: Washington State Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth
Description: The state of Washington has a special program for foster youth who are graduating high school seniors and are planning to attend college or university in Washington. The program is funded by an annual golf tournament called the Governor’s Cup. Students who receive and award have up to five years to use it, as long as they remain enrolled in school full time and maintain a certain GPA (as specified by the school). Eligible students should be living in foster care at the time of application submission, however former foster youth over the age of 18 who no longer live with their foster families are also welcome to apply. In addition to the scholarship, all recipients are invited to attend a four-day summer conference, which will help prepare them for the academic year.
Award: $2,000 – $4,000

Capital One
Scholarship Name: Fostering a Future Scholarship
Description: Capital One has joined forces with the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and The Children’s Action Network to provide scholarships to adopted children who spent time in foster care. Eligible students must have been adopted at of after they turned 13 years old. Only graduating high school seniors are invited to apply, and they must show an increase in grades throughout their school year. The application require three short essays, two letters of recommendation and first semester grades, so make sure that if you are going to apply for the Fostering Future Scholarship that you start preparing your application early.
Award: $5,000 (for community college students), $10,000 (for four-year colleges and universities)
