Scholarships for Women

As you do research about how to pay for college and search the Internet for college scholarship opportunities, you’ll find that there are all kinds of scholarships for women out there.

On FinancialAidFinder alone, there are many scholarships available to women with particular interests, in specific majors, and attending certain colleges.

But scholarships for women can also be a bit more general. Many corporations that sell products for women, such as women’s clothing and beauty products also sponsor scholarships programs for women attending undergraduate programs. The Talbots Women Scholarship Fund (www.talbots.com) awards $100,000 per year in scholarships to women who are returning to school after an absence.

Women’s magazines also award scholarships, such as the Glamour Top 10 College Women contest (www.glamour.com). This contest for female college juniors identifies stellar students who are “making a difference in the world.” So if you have started a community project, are doing research or anything else that might inspire other women, Glamour might honor you at a gala, and give you $3,000 for school.

When people think of Junior Miss, they usually think of a pageant with big dresses and even bigger hair. But America’s Junior Miss is actually a scholarship program for high school a senior which actually awards a number of scholarships for girls beyond the first place title.

You can see that women, unlike 50 or even 20 years ago, have many choices when it comes to college scholarships. The scholarships here are in addition to the many options out there for women studying computers, science and engineering, fields which have had a history of little representation from females.
