Cartoonist Contest and Princess Grace Scholarship

National Liberty Museum

Scholarships Name: Caretoon Contest
Description: In the wake of an incident in Denmark in which a cartoon managed to cause the country to erupt in violence, the National Liberty Museum created the Caretoon Contest to encourage young “cartoonists” to express peaceful messages in the form of cartoons. The annual contest is sponsored by the L.W. Pierce Family Foundation, and is open to both children and adults. Cartoons are submitted on the regional, national and international level and the contest names a number of winners and runners up, each of whom will have their cartoon published on the National Liberty Museum website, and shown in the museum itself.
Award: $1,000
Awards per Year: 3

How to Apply/Contact: Details of the contest these, as well as submission directions are available at the National Liberty Museum website, where you can also see the cartoons of last year’s winners. The website also has information about the National Liberty Museum’s other awards that can help students pay for college.

Princess Grace Foundation

Scholarship Name: Princess Grace Foundation Scholarship Program
Description: This prestigious scholarship program seeks the best students in Theater, Dance and Film and awards them with up to $25,000 for their study of the arts. The program is a collaboration between the Princess Grace Foundation and individual colleges, universities and non-profit organizations. The Foundation recognizes the limited sources of funding for individual artists, and the program was created to allow for both the artists and organizations to benefit. The organization also coordinates internships and apprenticeships in certain disciplines. Students must apply with a nomination from the Dean of his or her department; students and universities collaborate on the application process.
Award: $25,000
Awards per year: 6 (Theater), 6 (Dance), 1 (Playwright), 6 (Film), 3 (Choreography)
Award is Open to: Undergraduate Students, Graduate Students, Professionals

It is also a good idea to talk to your Dean about any past experience he or she might have with the Princess Grace Foundation.
