Scholarship Name: Schwallie Family Scholarship Program
Description: While autism is becoming more and more common in young people, it is also becoming more understood by doctors and people living with the condition. The Organization for Autism Research is one of the driving forces behind this understanding, and have also come to the forefront of providing money for college to students in need. The Schwallie Family Scholarship Program provides five awards of $3,000 to students with disorders in the autism spectrum, including Asperger’s Syndrome. These scholarships for students with autism are given in three categories: students attending four-year colleges and universities, students attending two-year colleges and universities, and students attending trade or vocational school. Students must show documentation of their autism spectrum disorder. Part time students are eligible for this award.

American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults
Scholarship Name: Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship
Description: Among the scholarships available to legally blind children, the Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship offer through the American Action Fund for Blind Children and Adults stands out not only for it’s larger-than-average award, but for the pioneer for whom it is named. Kenneth Jernigan was an activist for the legally blind, and worked for 50 years to help the work understand blindness, and to prove that blind people can be just as successful as those who are sighted, if given the proper chance. The Kenneth Jernigan scholarship is offered to one student per year who is legally blind (as defined by the federal statute) and has a similar commitment to advocacy for the blind as did Kenneth Jernigan.
