Description: The Henry Armstrong Foundation offers scholarships for two seemingly different college pursuits: medicine and athletics. But these two are very closely related in the context of the life of boxing legend Henry Armstrong, for whom the scholarship is named. Armstrong, who won national titles for boxing, turned to the sport because he could not afford to go to college to pursue a medical degree. The scholarship fund has been established to assist young men in attaining their dream of either going to medical school, or pursuing college-level athletics.

Napa Valley Marathon
Scholarship Name: Napa Valley Marathon Scholarship
Description: Here is another example of scholarships that are found in somewhat unlikely places. In the rural Napa Valley, each year runners come together for a marathon race which as been dubbed “the biggest little marathon in the west”. But more than the race through wine country, the Napa Valley Marathon also gives out $500 community based scholarships to local student athletes. The Marathon committee choses athletes from 5 local Napa Valley high schools who they feel represent their communities best both on the playing field and off.
