Vegetarian Resource Group

Scholarship Name: Vegetarian Scholarship
Description: If you’ve decided that you are better off without beef, perfectly happy not eating pork, and fine with giving up fowl, you probably qualify for a new scholarship from the Vegetarian Resource Group that offers scholarships of $5,000 to students who happen to be vegetarian activists. Candidates for the scholarship should be able to demonstrate that they have promoted vegetarian within their high school, and talk about how vegetarianism promotes a healthier and more peaceful lifestyle. In addition to a scholarship application and transcripts, applicants will be asked to write an essay about their own vegetarianism and activism, as well as write about how they see themselves in the future.
Award: $5,000

Coven of the Sacred Waters (no longer offered)

Scholarship Name: Karma Scholarship
Description: It isn’t really fair to call this scholarship “weird”, but it is certainly out of the ordinary. For high school students who are Wiccan, the Coven of the Sacred Waters offers $500 and $250 scholarships for college. Students are asked to write a 1,000 word essay describing how being Wiccan has affected their lives. The website for the Coven of the Sacred Waters is a little dated, but they continue to award scholarships so make sure that you apply through the online form.
Award: $250 – $500
