Description: Nordstrom is one of the leading clothing retailers in the United States – chances are, you’ve shopped there, or know somebody who’s shopped there, or better yet, live close enough to shop their. Like many large corporations that are looking to become more involved with their customers and their communities, Nordstrom has developed a scholarships program for high school juniors that rewards academic achievement and community involvement with $10,000 for college. What sets the Nordstrom Scholarship Program apart from other similar scholarship programs is the scholarship committee (those people who are reading an evaluating all of the applications that come in), which is made up of local community leaders. That means that a involvement in community activities, real involvement that shows commitment to an organization and cause, is a vital part of any application. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.7 to qualify for the scholarship, and should demonstrate financial need.

Scholarship Name: Exxon Mobil Scholarship Program
Description: Exxon started out it’s reign as newsworthy topics because of a rather unfortunately incident (the Exxon Valdez oil spill), and has since been trying to rebrand and re-image as a community-friendly corporation that cares not only about the environment, but about employees and their families. This initiative has launched a number of scholarships programs for college from Exxon Mobil, which target high school students of Exxon Mobil employees. Exxon Mobil scholarships are offered through a number of programs. The Teagle Foundation offers $10,000 scholarships to high school seniors worth $2,500 per year. The Teagle Foundation scholarship program has a rigorous application process, including submitting SAT or ACT scores. The company also offers a separate scholarship program to children of employees living in Singapore, Exxon Mobil’s largest Asian business center. Children of employees in Singapore must fill out a rather detailed application form, and apply through the Exxon Mobil corporate headquarters in Singapore.
