Scholarship Name: The Rhodes Scholars Program
Description: One of the most recognizable and prestigious scholarship programs is the Rhodes Scholars program. Leaders in government (including President Bill Clinton) completely to program, which sends American students to study at one of the world’s oldest institutions of higher learning, Oxford University. Due to the competitive nature of the scholarship program, students are nominated by their universities to be considered for a Rhodes scholarship. Rhodes Scholars already have bachelor’s degrees from high-caliber universities in the United States, and pursue bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees while at Oxford.

National Merit Scholarship Program
Scholarship Name: National Merit Scholarship
Description: This is another one of those scholarships that you’ve probably heard people mention, but maybe wondered what it’s all about. The National Merit Scholarship program awards high-achieving high school juniors, based on their scores on the PSAT/NMSQT. If you ever wondered why your parents and/or college advisor kept advising you to take these tests, this scholarship is one of the main reasons (in addition to preparing you for the SAT, of course). There are three tiers of semi-finalists for the program, all of which hold prestigious (read: resume and college application building) name recognition, but only finalists receive the $2,500 college scholarship. Some universities will offer additional scholarship funds for national merit scholars, and certain third-party academic scholarship programs might require that a student is at least a semi-finalist to qualify for their scholarships.
