Scholarship Name: BP Community Scholarship Program
Description: Most people will probably associate the name BP (short for British Petroleum) with a few unpleasant things – namely the gulf coast oil disaster, and the ongoing issues with clean-up that followed. As a result of this, BP has struggled to “clean-up” something else: it’s corporate image. However, the oil giant has been awarding scholarships to eligible students since 1987, investing specifically in neighborhoods that they serve with their gas stations to help bridge some of the financial gaps that many youths face as they apply to (and try to pay for) college. Scholarships are currently targeted at students living in the New York, New Jersey and Long Island areas in the northeastern U.S. The amount of each award will vary, but all students will have to demonstrate financial need to qualify for the award.

McKesson
Scholarship Name: McKesson Pharmacy Scholarship Program
Description: McKesson isn’t exactly a household name, but as a Fortune 500 company, McKesson is a leader in the delivery of healthcare services and pharmaceuticals across the country. To take things a step further, McKesson has developed a scholarship program to address the need for many pharmacy students to find additional funding to pay for college. McKesson looks for the next generation of leaders in pharmacy, and rewards them with scholarship awards of up to $1,000 for one year of study. To be eligible, students must be either the child or dependent of a pharmacist or drugstore owner who is a McKesson primary account, or be a pharmacy students who is employed at at pharmacy that is a primary account of McKesson. Awards are renewable for up to three ears; students are only eligible to apply after their 3rd year of study – pre-pharmacy students are ineligible.
